April 19th-April 23rd

This week we will be discussing the five distinct habitats in a pond ecosystem.
Vocabulary:

The five distinct habitats in a Pond Ecosystem:
surface of the water
the air above the water
the open water
the bottom of the pond
the shallow water at the edge of the pond

We will be making a Venn Diagram about a Pond and a Space Shuttle to find the similarities and differences. And begin discussing and working in our filmed project. (to be done at home)

Week as of April 12- April 16

Project Oral Presentations will be held Tuesday April 13th.
Group 1 : Bogs
Group 2: Marshes
Group 3: Delta
Group 4: Wetlands
Groups 5: Ponds Lakes
Group 6: Swamps
Students need to be able to explain their Ecosystem. They are not supposed to read.
Wednesday April 14th we will be having the test that covers data of the video watched in class. They may study from Study Guides 1 and 2 and hard copy with data which may be collected Monday. Thursday and Friday we will be discussing what things they find within their neighborhoods. And discussing how keys are useful.
A worksheet will be provided (graded) which they are to prepare.

Is there someone that has a fish tank you may bring to school, so we can observe the fish?

Week as of April 6th to April 9th
This week and as part of our Unit : Pond Life we will watch again the Video for which the students have a Study Guide. We will discuss and take notes as well.
They need to copy the following vocabulary in their Notebooks:
Photic Zone: the upper layer of a body of water delineated by the depth to which enough sunlight can penetrate to permit photosynthesis

Benthic Zone: the area over the continental margin, which is unaffected by the tides.

Biome:a complex biotic community characterized by distinctive plant and animal species and maintained under the climatic conditions of the region, esp. such a community that has developed to climax.

Ecosystem:a system formed by the interaction of a community of organisms with their environment.

Interdependent Organisms:
Phytoplankton:the aggregate of plants and plantlike organisms in plankton.

Zooplankton:the aggregate of animal or animallike organisms in plankton, as protozoans.

Tributaries:a stream that flows to a larger stream or other body of water.

Sediment: mineral or organic matter deposited by water, air, or ice.

Bogs: wet, spongy ground with soil composed mainly of decayed vegetable matter

Marsh: a tract of low wet land, often treeless and periodically inundated, generally characterized by a growth of grasses, sedges, cattails, and rushes.

Delta: a nearly flat plain of alluvial deposit between diverging branches of the mouth of a river, often, though not necessarily, triangular

Habitats: the natural environment of an organism; place that is natural for the life and growth of an organism.

Wetland: and that has a wet and spongy soil, as a marsh, swamp, or bog.

Ecotone: he transition zone between two different plant communities, as that between forest and prairie.

Swamps: a tract of wet, spongy land, often having a growth of certain types of trees and other vegetation, but unfit for cultivation.

Reciprocal teaching
Summarizing
Preparing a Poster which includes the Summary and Pictures.
