August 31st-September 4th

Last week we began discussing Physical Properties and we summarized interactive writing, we still are to cover Mass, Weight, Volume, Mixtures and Solutions.
Unfortunately our test will be rescheduled for Friday, September 4th because tommorow during our block we will have a Mes de la Patria Assembye, and due to this we will not be able to finish the material.
Please make sure to Review
  • Handouts
  • Summaries
  • Formulas(Volume and Density)
  • SI Prefixes

WE will be finishing during the following wo days. We will also begin Lesson 2 "Changes In State". To introduce the theme we will be doing an activity.

Students will be divided into groups, conduct the activity, record observations Monday, September 7th hey will be turning in their Lab Repor by Wednessay September 9th.

Test for Changes in State will be Friday September 11th, have students review from their binders and NB

Week August 24 / August 28

Last week we enjoyed making safety in Science Posters. The class was divided into six groups and had researched and prepare their posters and make an oral presentation to their peers. This was graded upon a rubric, you may find it in the binders.
Then we reviewed the Scientific Method and Lab Equipment using Power Point Presentations. Students were able to make notes and actively participate in the discussion.
Test is tomorrow Tuesday, August 25th, they may review from the NB and binder.

We will begin the Matter and its Properties Unit.

Vocabulary:

matter
physical properties
mass
weight
volume
density
solubility
solid
liquid
gas
evaporation
condensation
reactivity
combustibility

To review key terms students are to prepare a pictionary which will be graded.

  • We will be making an activity Wednesday for it, Students will need to bring a RED APPLE
We Will be Discussing
  • What Physical Properties Are
  • How to measure some physical properties
  • Examples of physical properties that can be used to identify substances
Formulas students will learn to apply:

volume= length X width X height
Density= mass / volume

Test Lesson 1 Next Wednesday, September 2

Vocabulary included in the test will be: matter, physical properties, mass, weight , volume, density, and solubility.

Please study from NB and Binder.

We are also bringing Problem of the Week which the student should submit next Tuesday.

Week August 17- August 21

Welcome to the Science 6-4 Science class. Last week we discussed the Classroom Rules, Grading Policy and materials that we will be using during the school year. I also provided the students with a copy of the Syllabus, which is in their Science Binder.

We began with the Scientific Method and have discussed each of the steps in the process. We will continue with Safety in Science and Lab Equipment.

We will be having a test next Tuesday August 25.
Students need to be able to list each of the steps of the Scientific Method and explain them. Also recognize and know which are the Safety Symbols in Labs as well as the use of Lab. Equipment.

They need to review their notebook, and material included in their binder.

Special Activity of the Week
Students will be searching for data to be able to make Safety Posters!!!!!!!!
