Week as fo February 22nd to February 23

Last week we had a series of "Read Alouds" related with Food Facts. Students were able to discuss and understand the parts of the Food Labels and the data that each includes. Probably next time they visit the supermarket thew will be reading the labels and will be able to explain highs and lows as well as the % DV(Daily Value Percent)
They got to work in the elaboration of a Fact Sheet by group will be presented orally tomorrow and include:
  • Serving Size
  • Amount of Calories
  • Amount of Fats
  • Get Enough Mineral and Vitamins
  • Percent (%) Daily Value
  • Footnote with Daily Values (DVs)
We will be elaborating flash cards with the key terms for this section.
To reinforce they will be using the labels they have in their NB and answering a worksheet related with amount of sodium, carbohydrates, saturated fat, least sugar, more calories, more fat, etc...
A graded activity will be held Thursday related with what`s on the label?
Friday we will have a Test that includes facts from the Packets provided as well as the Key Terms for this section.

Week as of February 15th-19th

Students will be able to:
  • Identify foods in the milk group
  • Identify the Health and Nutrition benefits from eating foods rich in calcium
  • Analyze food labels to determine which foods contain the most calcium.
  • Compare food labels to determine which calcium-rich foods are lowest in fat.
We will be reinforcing the following skills:
  • Reading Charts
  • Thinking skills-making comparisons
  • math computation
We will be conducting an experiment with milk so please let me know if your son/daughter are allergic b writing a note.
We will be using :
  • fat free milk
  • 1% chocolate milk
  • 2% milk
  • White milk

Week as of February 8th-12th

Days to keep in mind:
Wednesday, February 10th Science Quiz related with Fats and Proteins. Students need to study from notes taken in their NB and Binder.
Thursday February 11th Half Day Students will be dismissed at 11:00 am. Teachers will receive 6+1 Training
Friday February 12th Spring break Holiday

Tomorrow during the first part of the block we will continue to work as a group in the Science Activity we held Thursday and Friday.
Each group will be preparing their Lab Report 1 Per Group with the Results.
They are to follow the Scientific Method.
All work will be done in class. Each group needs a cardboard and construction paper.
The second part will be used to finish our Guided Reading and Taking Notes.

Week ad of February 1st-5th

We will be reinforcing which foods contain proteins (foods form the meat and bean group).
We will discuss why proteins are important, how scientist call proteins, why fats should be avoided.
We will discuss and complete the Where´s the Fat Worksheet.
Related Activities: in Groups will be developed: Activity 1
They will be Creating a Poster to help other students select healthy choices:Activity 2
They need to investigate on-line a Fast Food Restaurant chain that can also be found in our community. They will analyze their menu and suggest what can e ordered and what should be avoided. Oral Presentations to class.
Both will be graded.
